This sick little girl just showed the world she’s a Zumba superstar
6-year-old Kentucky resident Audrey Nethery does not have it easy. Audrey lives with Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA), a rare syndrome in which a person’s bone marrow fails to produce red blood cells, which causes severe anemia. As a result, Audrey has undergone 20 blood transfusions at this point, and will likely need more transfusions in the future (half of all people with DBA need transfusions about once a month).
However, Audrey does not let her health hurdles stop her from dancing her heart out. The little girl is a Zumba fanatic, and has developed quite the name for herself of the internet with her badass moves. With her dancing videos, Audrey raises both awareness and research funds for DBA.
Audrey just took her internet fame to the next level with a video that shows her tearing up the stage at the International Zumba Convention, held this year in Orlando, Florida. The video has racked up almost a million views on both Facebook and YouTube.
“Every time I see her dance, even when it’s just in her class, it makes me cry, but seeing her up on that stage was incredible,” Audrey’s mom, Julie Haise, told Today. “When she’s dancing, she’s happy and brings so much joy to everyone watching.”
