Listen to Michelle Branch’s comeback single “Hopeless Romantic,” and prepare to fall in love
It truly feels like the early ’00s are BACK as Michelle Branch’s comeback single “Hopeless Romantic” is *finally* here!
While there are some things that should certainly stay in the early 2000s, Michelle Branch isn’t one of them. We totally LOVED her two albums, The Spirit Room and Hotel Paper, so when news broke that the singer was set to release her first album in 14(!) years, it was like it was 2003 all over again.
Earlier this week, Branch then gave us a glorious taster of her new sound, and our excitement levels reached fever pitch. Literally, we were SO excited it was quite hard to concentrate on anything else, tbh.
Well, the time is finally here as Michelle Branch has shared the first song from her upcoming album, and we’re in musical heaven.
The song is called “Hopeless Romantic” and is the title track from her upcoming album, which is expected to be released on April 7th. Co-produced with her now-partner Patrick Carney from the band The Black Keys, who helped with the whole album, the track is an ominous and dark meditation on heartbreak, relationships, and the pitfalls of falling in love. Branch delivers a tender and sometimes sexy vocal over the pulsing bass and smattering of guitars, and it’s glorious.
Listen to “Hopeless Romantic” below.
In a press release, Branch spoke about how her upcoming album was filled with tales of relationships and the trials of the heart.
“I love hearing human stories about people interacting with each other, and the title perfectly sums up the record," she said. "A lot of these songs are about heartbreak, but knowing that it doesn’t mean the end of the world, it just means letting go and moving on and knowing that you’re going to find something better, as hard as that is.
Branch, who got divorced in 2015 after 11 years of marriage, also spoke about how the upcoming record was her first truly autobiographical collection.
“It’s been a couple of really interesting years,” she revealed. “I mean, the last time I dated I was a teenager!”
We’re completely smitten with “Hopeless Romantic,” and can’t wait to see how the rest of Michelle Branch’s album sounds when it’s released on April 7th!
