Disney may have just found the voice of Scar in their live-action “Lion King”

It seems like things are seriously starting to come together for Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King: The film has finally found its Scar — and we don’t want to say be prepared…but be prepared.

12 Years a Slave actor Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly in talks to take on the villainous Scar role, which Jeremy Irons originated in the 1994 animated classic. Ejiofor would join Donald Glover as Simba and James Earl Jones, who is reprising his role as King Mufasa. In the film, Scar, Mufasa’s younger brother, betrays the King in an attempt to make his own claim as King of Pride Rock.

While nothing has been confirmed, we think the Doctor Strange actor is the perfect person to play Scar.

Back in April, director Jon Favreau — who also directed Disney’s live-action Jungle Book — opened up about taking on a project as well-known as The Lion King and trying to live up to the animated film.

“The Jungle Book was 50 years ago, Lion King was 20, and people grew up with it in an age of video where they watched it over and over again. So, I have to really examine all of those plot points, Favreau told Entertainment Weekly. “Also, the myths are very strong in it, so you’re hitting something even deeper than the movie sometimes. What I’m trying to do is honor what was there… There are certain expectations people have.

We love Favreau’s films and we’re completely confident that he’s going to knock this one out of the park, too. Rounding out the cast are Billy Eichner as Timon, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and John Oliver as Zazu. The Iron Man director has also expressed interest in casting Beyonce as Nala and will reportedly do *whatever* it takes to get her to take the part. We’re very on board with Beyonce as Nala, too, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed she agrees.

The film is currently shooting in L.A. and will hit theaters in July 2019.
