Lin Manuel Miranda gives a status update on the live action “The Little Mermaid” and uh, it’s not much
There are very few things we’re anticipating more eagerly than the upcoming live action Little Mermaid, especially after Lin Manuel Miranda was tapped to compose alongside the original composer, Alan Menken. Except maaaaybe Disney’s Moana, which was the first movie Disney tapped Lin Manuel to work on. We’re pretty thrilled with this burgeoning relationship the unites everything we love in music, but recently Vulture spoke to Lin about the progress of the movie, and we’ve got some bad news.
When asked about the status of The Little Mermaid, Lin Manuel said, “We’re in super-early talks.” We were kinda hoping his answer would be more like “coming literally right now to a theatre near you.”
We’re pretty heartbroken, we’re not even going to lie. Of course, it’s still happening, and we do have Moana to help kick our LMM cravings, but like… wahhhh. Lin doesn’t even have a job title yet.
“Right now, [my job title] is the guy who wears the ‘don’t mess it up’ hat. If I could sign a contract with that job title on it, that would be great! But that’s sort of where we are.
Honestly, Lin only makes everything he touches even better, so we can’t imagine this is a level of specificity he needs, but we’re thrilled to hear it seems like his sphere of influence might be rather large.
THIS MOVIE CANNOT COME SOON ENOUGH.
