Lili Reinhart shared a terrifying run-in she had with a fake Uber driver, and everyone should read this

Ride-sharing apps like Uber and Lyft have been a godsend for those times when you need to get somewhere but don’t have access to a car. But unfortunately, there are risks to getting a ride from a stranger. Recently, Lili Reinhart opened up about someone posing as an Uber driver, and her story is seriously scary.

Reinhart described the incident in a June 2nd tweet, writing that a man posing as a professional tried to lure her over to his car. Thankfully, she quickly realized that something was off and avoided a potentially dangerous situation.

"PSA: I was just ushered to a car by someone posing to be an airport cab/Uber driver," she wrote. "I got to his car, and there were absolutely no signs that he was a professional service driver. So I did NOT get into the car. Please pay attention and make smart decisions out there."

The Riverdale actress followed up her first message by warning her fans to “be careful out there.”

"You don't have to be nice or worry about being rude," she added. "Trust your gut. It could save you."

Reinhart’s post makes a super important point.

While legitimate ride-sharing is usually a safe experience, there are precautions riders can take to make sure that nothing is amiss. Always make sure that the license plate number and the model of your driver’s car match what the app said they would be. Before you get in, you can also ask your driver to verify your name.

Uber and Lyft have recently implemented features to improve the safety of their apps. The LED logo on the front of Lyft cars (called a Lyft Amp) can change color to match passengers’ apps. So if you’re riding Lyft, check the beacon before getting in the car. Uber, meanwhile, allows you to tap a button during a ride if you need emergency assistance. Both services also allow you to share your route with friends as an added precaution.

We’re glad that Reinhart is okay and looking out for others. She is 100% right: If something seems weird, you don’t have to worry about being nice. Be safe out there.
