Lili Reinhart Opened Up About the Isolation of Filming ‘Riverdale’ RN
"I genuinely feel like a prisoner, going back to work, because I cannot leave Canada."
Riverdale has resumed filming after production was halted by the pandemic back in March, which is good news for all you Bughead and Varchie stans. Riverdale Season 5 is on its way, but for the actors who play our favorite comic book characters come to life, filming feels different this time around. Lili Reinhart, aka Betty Cooper, recently opened up about how challenging it has been to go back to work with new pandemic-era policies in place.
In an interview with Nylon, Reinhart discussed how filming Riverdale is particularly difficult compared to projects in the U.S., because production takes place in Canada, and due to the international border, Reinhart is unable to travel back into the U.S. until Christmas. Any friends or family who’d like to visit Reinhart would have to quarantine for two weeks before seeing her in Vancouver.

“That doesn’t feel good,” she said. “You can’t go home for Thanksgiving, can’t visit your family. No one can come visit you unless they quarantine for two weeks. It just feels fucked.”
Season 5 of the CW drama will pick back up where Season 4 left off with 3 episodes concluding the characters’ high school experience as Riverdale High Vixens and Bulldogs.
“We stopped during the prom episode, so I have to fit back in that prom dress,” Reinhart said. “Five months later, we’re all going to be tan, maybe a little bit thicker. I certainly am.”
Reinhart has been open about experiencing depression and the weight gain that comes along with it—plus, how it affects her confidence while filming underwear scenes on Riverdale. In addition to new filming precautions, the actress’s breakup with her onscreen romance Cole Sprouse likely adds another element of newness to the process.
After the conclusion of high school, Riverdale will take a seven-year time jump, which will stir up a whole new slew of mysteries and drams, we’re sure.
