Lili Reinhart revealed one of her love poems from her upcoming poetry collection Swimming Lessons

Update, February 17th, 2020, 9:32 a.m. ET: After announcing her debut poetry collection in October, Lili Reinhart is giving us a sneak peek inside. On Friday, February 14th, Reinhart shared a love poem from Swimming Lessons—appropriately in honor of Valentine’s Day, as she said on Instagram.

“In honor of Valentine’s Day~ here’s a peek inside my book, which comes out on May 5th ❤️,” the Riverdale actress captioned her Instagram post. According to a press release, the poetry collection will, in part, explore “the euphoric beginnings of young love,” and this untitled poem certainly seems to fit that bill.

In addition to the beginnings of young love, Swimming Lessons will also talk about “battling anxiety and depression in the face of fame and the inevitable heartbreak that stems from passion.” Though not pictured in this sneak peek, the poems will also be accompanied by illustrations.

You can pre-order Swimming Lessons right now. It will be released on May 5th.

Original post, October 8th, 2019: We thought there was no way Lili Reinhart could get any cooler. Turns out, we were wrong. Not only does the 23-year-old play our favorite teen sleuth on Riverdale, but she just starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in the box-office hit Hustlers—not to mention, she has graced the covers of countless magazines in the past year. Lili is killing it, and now she can add “published poet” to her list of accomplishments. We’re crushing.

Reinhart will publish her debut collection of poetry, titled Swimming Lessons, on May 5th, 2020.

If you’re too excited about this news to wait until May to purchase the collection, you can pre-order Swimming Lessons on Amazon. According to a press release to HelloGiggles, Swimming Lessons “explores the euphoric beginnings of young love, battling anxiety and depression in the face of fame, and the inevitable heartbreak that stems from passion.” The poems will be accompanied by illustrations and will “reveal the depths of female experience.”

We’re drooling over the simple and intimate mood of the cover and can only imagine that the pages inside are filled with similar imagery. The title is curious—maybe it’s the name of one of Reinhart’s favorite poems in the collection, or maybe it’s a metaphor for learning how to love or learning how to battle mental illness. Or maybe it has an even deeper (no pun intended) meaning. We’ll have to wait until the spring to find out.

Although the news of her book surprised (and thrilled) us, it’s no secret that Reinhart has a way with words.

She often captions her Instagram photos with poetic phrases or sometimes with full-on poems. Her public Tumblr page is basically a deep dive into her poetry, too. For her boyfriend Cole Sprouse’s birthday, she paired a solo shot of him with a poem titled “sappy nighttime birthday poem” on Instagram:

If this poem is a sneak peek into the voice of her book, Swimming Lessons, we’re excited. The straight-forward tone is refreshingly relatable, just like Lili. But that’s no surprise, is it? We’re marking May 5th on our calendar for more than just a Cinco de Mayo celebration this year.
