GoT fans are petitioning to remake Season 8, and Lili Reinhart thinks that’s “ridiculous”
Lili Reinhart has called out the thousands of angry Game of Thrones fans who signed a petition to remake Season 8 of the hit series. In case you missed it, there’s a Change.org petition circulating online titled “Remake Game of Thrones Season 8 with competent writers,” demanding the show’s creators give viewers the ending they feel they deserve. It’s garnered so much attention that even the Riverdale star has chimed in on the heated debate, calling fans “ridiculous” for making such a request.
WARNING: Major Game of Thrones spoilers ahead.
Over the course of the season, fans have been extremely vocal about their disappointment in GoT‘s final string of episodes, especially after last week saw Daenerys Targaryen become the Mad Queen and completely destroy King’s Landing with her dragon.
"[Showrunners] David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on," the petition reads. "This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!"
When Variety posted about the viral petition on Instagram, Reinhart jumped into the comments section.
"This is not how television works," she wrote. "TV shows are not a fan service. "It's ridiculous of people to think they can demand creative change from artists."
However, not all fans appeared to agree.
The actress, who plays Betty Cooper on Riverdale, knows a thing or two about feeling the wrath of fans’ expectations. Riverdale just aired its Season 3 finale on Wednesday, May 15th, which had mixed reviews after appearing to kill off a major character.
Though it’s very unlikely HBO will act on the petition and agree to remake the last season of GoT, fans might have a change of heart after watching the series finale, which airs this Sunday, May 19th at 6 p.m. ET. Only time will tell.
