As the earth gets ready to become reborn on March 20th (the first day of Spring), we also must prepare to renew ourselves energetically. And although cleansing your space with smoke or sage may seem appealing, not all of us have the luxury of being able to do that. But that doesn’t mean you can’t explore other, less invasive, ways to get your spirit soaring. Whether you’re working with salt, a cinnamon broom, or sage spray, there are a myriad of options for the modern-day mystic who finds herself in smoke-free quarters. Read on for four easy ways to get some fresh spring energy in your space — no smoke necessary.

Sea salt

Sea salt is an incredibly effective way to absorb excess energy. Salt is the smallest crystal in the natural world. Since crystals have perfect molecular structures and they help to realign our energy, salt works by absorbing any excess energy, whether that’s in a room or another crystal. You can encircle your house in salt to keep negativity away or you can simply sprinkle it in the corners of each room as well as in the entrance to your home or room to help absorb stagnant energy. You can also mix herbs and flowers into your salt, like roses for love or rosemary for protection, for extra vibes.

Cinnamon broom

Yes, the iconic witches broom is sort of accurate. Cinnamon is used for protection, and cinnamon brooms are a really easy way to protect and cleanse your space. Starting in the back of the room you’re cleansing, use the broom to “sweep” the air out of the door or window. The goal is to literally sweep the energy outside of your home, so end by sweeping out the front door. You can say a mantra like “blessed be” as you do this, or simply visualize your broom as a ray of white light, guiding excess energy out of your home.

Sage spray

White sage is like the energetic bleach of the herb world, and you can still get the plants’ medicine without burning it. Pick up a sage spray or make your own. Add a few drops of sage essential oil into a spray bottle filled with water. You can add some small crystals like black onyx, hematite, or obsidian to help repel and absorb excess negative energy, or clear quartz to help channel your intuition in a stronger way. Spray your room, your furniture, yourself, and your pets or loved ones to help clear the air.

You can also work with crystals to help charge your space for spring! To absorb excess negative energy, grab a few dark-colored stones like obsidian and onyx. Place them on your bedside table, on your windowsill, near your front door, or atop your fireplace. You can also charge a stone by setting a specific intention for it, like to attract positivity or connect you with your intuition. Clear quartz is a really easy stone to work with, and it helps to amplify energies. If you want to foster a more loving and compassionate home, place rose quartz around your home. You can also charge a crystal and bury it in front of your home or near the entrance of your home for extra protection.

Here’s to spring cleaning your spirits!
