This song just beat Taylor Swift's record for most-watched music video
Okay, first thing’s first. We love Taylor Swift. And we absolutely love “Blank Space.” So much so that it received the highest number of views of any music video on Vevo within the first day of release (20.1 million, to be exact). That victory was short-lived, though, because in the past 24 hours, a new winner has emerged. And if you’ve been on social media at all this week, you probably have a good guess as to which song it is. Oh yeah, that’s right: It’s Adele’s “Hello” and with a whopping 27.7 million views on its first day in the world, it swept the world by storm.
It’s been a few years since the “Rolling In The Deep” singer last released an album — or even a single — and maybe that’s why everyone’s going nuts over this new song about righting past wrongs. Maybe it’s because we can all relate to having an ex or an old friend or even a relative who we’ve left behind. Or maybe it’s because Adele is just seriously awesome and we love everything she does. And if you don’t believe me, check out some of these tweets that prove Adelemania is in full force:
T. Swift can take comfort that “Blank Space” is still reigning when it comes to most viewed video ever (with 1.23 billion views), but considering about a million people are watching “Hello” per HOUR, not to mention that as of this article, the YouTube video has over 6 million views, there’s a good chance Ms. Swift will get booted off that throne as well. Or maybe there’ll be a tie. We would be totally cool with that. As for our beloved Adele, she’ll be releasing her much anticipated new album, 25, on the 20th of November. For now, we’ll just be cutting up some onions over here as we listen to this track on loop.
And if that’s a bit too soul crushing for you after a while (because, hey, sometimes we need to smile), you can always watch this amazing Adele and Lionel Ritchie mash-up. Thank you, Internet!
