The most romantic cities in the world to inspire your Valentine’s Day travels
Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and while you may think you’ve planned the perfect Valentine’s celebration for your honey, you may want to rethink your location: Spa Seekers just released its exhaustive list of most romantic cities in the world—and the number one city for romance might just surprise you.
To come to its conclusion, the website analyzed 66 cities around the world and rated them on how romantic they are. The site’s index score combines five factors, including the city you’re most likely to be proposed to based on the hashtags #engaged, #heproposed and #isaidyes. The site also analyzed marriage rates in each city, the LGBT dating scene based on a worldwide study by Nestpick, how sexually active people are in each city based on a study of 450,000 adults, and how many people feel romantic, based on social media posts.
Using these metrics, the site concluded that New York City reigns supreme when it comes to romance.
“With an index score of 46.4 out of 50, New York City came out on top as the world’s most romantic city. It has seen the most marriage proposals over the last six months, according to Instagram data, and was rated the best city in the world for LGBT dating, with a score of 5 out of 5,” the site explained. “The Big Apple is also the 9th most sexually active city in the world and has the 4th highest marriage rate. It has plenty of idyllic places to go on a date, such as Central Park or the Empire State Building, where you can gaze at stunning cityscape views.”
Coming in close second is London thanks to 1,813 Instagram posts tagging the location, and plenty of marriage proposals in the last six months. It also came in as the fourth most sexually active city on the list.
The rest of the top 10 included more predictable results including Los Angeles, Paris, Chicago, Berlin, San Francisco, Sydney, Miami, and Melbourne. Once you’ve selected your location, you could always up the ante by booking one of the most romantic hotels in the world. Then, just hope your partner says “yes.”
