Tracy Chapman has blown us away more times than we can count. With her amazing hits like “Fast Car” and “Give Me One Reason,” she’s not only been a massive influence for thousands of musicians everywhere (like when Kelly Clarkson did a gorg cover of “Give Me One Reason”), but to even non-musicians with her soulful voice. Really, who can bring emotion to a piece like Tracy Chapman?

And recently, on Late Show with David Letterman, she did it again. . . by performing Ben E. King’s “Stand By Me,” a personal fave of Letterman’s, who said, “To hear Tracy Chapman sing that song is heaven.”

And man, it was. Tracy completely made us melt. She kept it ultra simple—no fancy riffs or anything—and the purity of her rendition almost brought us to tears. With simply a black background, the spotlight was on her, just standing there with her guitar, pouring her soul out through the microphone.

She certainly got Letterman emotional, who kissed the top of her head, saying, “It means a great deal to me. I’m so happy you could do this for us.”

Thanks for the beautiful music once again, Tracy, and we’re wiping our tears away. Check it out for yourself and be prepared to get chills:
