For anybody who regularly rides public transit, sexual harassment from strangers on the bus or train is often an unfortunate, unjust – and dangerous – fact of life.

To combat sexual harassment and help its residents feel safer, the city of Los Angeles is launching a 24/7 hotline for victims of harassment on public transit.

Riders who feel unsafe or uncomfortable, or want to report an incident to police, can call 1-844-Off-Limits (633-5464). Counselors with the LA-based organization Peace Over Violence.

The counselor can stay on the phone with them or give them resources for how to contact the police.
