This kitten library is officially a thing (and we're officially obsessed)
It’s the middle of the day, you’re at work and feeling a little blue, and all of a sudden you just know, in your heart of hearts, that the only thing that could really cheer you up would be a solid snugglefest with a kitten. But you’re at work and there is nary a kitten to be found! So you must make do with a quick sneak-watch of a cute kitten video on your phone. You’re not alone. We’ve all been there.
You know where they DON’T have this problem? The Dona Ana County Office, a government center in Las Cruces, New Mexico where, as CBS News reports, if you’re an employee with a hankering for a kitten cuddle, you can just head over the KITTEN LIBRARY in the lobby and “check out” a whiskered cutie to play with.
The kittens are from a local shelter and office receptionist Becky Garcia also doubles as the kitten librarian (or as she jokingly refers to herself “Madame of the Cat House.” OMG, love her).
“The joy, the smiles, I’ve seen so many smiles,” Garcia comments re: the awesomeness of being a kitty librarian.
Community planner Angela Roberson works in the Dona Ana County Office and is a regular at the kitten library. She’ll often bring a kitten back to her desk, where he’ll sit on her shoulder (or crawl all over her keyboard).
“It definitely relieves stress,” Roberson admits. “I mean, how could it not when you have a little fuzzy thing that you can take back to your office.”
The kitten library both makes employees happier AND has become a great way for Las Cruces kitties to get adopted. All library cats are looking for forever homes and, to date, 100 kittens have been adopted through the “kitty library.”
So, can we have a kitten library in every office ever from now on? Okay, great, thanks so much!
