We’re all guilty of not living life to the fullest, right? It can be hard sometimes to get going and really enjoy the world around us, especially when there’s a new season of Orange is the New Black to watch. We can so often get dragged down by the stresses of work, social media, and, like, everything that surrounds us on a daily basis. However, when Robert Kugler discovered that his faithful dog, Bella, was dying of terminal cancer, he decided to throw caution to the wind and help his dog celebrate her life to the fullest.

Robert, who is from Broken Bow, Nebraska, adopted Bella, a chocolate labrador, nine years ago, and the pair became firm friends. Upsettingly, Bella was diagnosed with bone cancer, resulting in the amputation of one of her legs. From then things just got worse, with the cancer spreading to her lungs, and becoming terminal. Last year, Bella was given three to six months to live.

Rather than allowing his grief to consume him, Robert figured that he’d try and let Bella live the remaining few months of her life to the fullest, setting off on a road trip around the country.

“I just didn’t want her to be gone one day when I came home,” Robert told CNN. “This is one of the biggest connections I’ve ever had to another living being. I don’t care that it’s a dog.”

Documenting their travels on his social media accounts, Robert and Bella packed up and camped out in Robert’s Toyota 4Runner, travelling to New York, New Hampshire, Cleveland, Ohio, and more, taking some gorgeous pictures along the way.

Isn’t she just the cutest thing, like, ever?

Luckily, Bella has lived longer than initially anticipated. However, Robert knows that her time will come.

“I want to inspire people to get outside and live,” he said. “Love each other for who we are and make friends.”

Continuing he added, “We take on these animals, which means we’re gonna take on their life and their passing. To be there with them when they pass is the greatest gift you can give anybody.”

Excuse us while we just grab a box of tissues 😭.

Ultimately, thanks to Robert and Bella, we can all be inspired to go out and experience all the joys that life has to offer. As we’re all aware, life is too short.

At the moment Robert and Bella are currently relaxing in Florida, but the pair aim to continue their travels soon. You can keep updated with their adventures on Facebook and Instagram.
