This viral photo of a teen's dad creatively supporting her mom during cancer treatment is so moving
Mackenna Newman, a 17-year-old from California, has gone viral on social media for the sweetest reason ever — a photo of her dad creatively keeping her mom company during cancer treatment has restored our faith that true love exists. Her mom, Marci, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in October, and last week she had to be isolated while undergoing radiation treatment.
Isolation didn’t stop Mackenna’s dad, Jon, from staying as close to his wife as possible the entire time.
She posted a photo of her dad sitting right outside Marci’s room — something he did the entire time she was in isolation.
I’m not crying — there’s something in my eye. OK, maybe I am crying — but I have plenty of company. In less than a week, the photo has been retweeted 1,300 times and received nearly 4,000 “likes.”
People have a lot of emotions, and the reactions sum up how we’re all feeling right now.
Mackenna says she’s incredibly grateful for the amount of love she’s received in response to her post — and this particular gesture is nothing out of the ordinary for Jon.
These two officially win the award for “Sweetest Couple of the Year.” We wish Marci a speedy recovery — and we’re so glad to see that she has such a supportive husband and daughter who will (literally) be by her side every step of the way.
