Let’s be real. There are times you drink coffee for the fun and joy of it. And there are other times you drink it just for the caffeine. But how do you know if you’re getting enough kick in your cup? Of course you could go through and look at the caffeine content in every drink and make a logical determination. But it’s difficult enough to remember your name when you really need some pep in your step, so how can you be expected to do such a complicated analysis?

Luckily for all of us, someone else did the work for us. And it makes our lives so much easier (and more caffeinated).

The website Spoon University has officially ranked 11 of the most popular drinks at Starbucks by the caffeine content. Which means after a quick glance at their list, you can know exactly the amount of caffeine you’ll get along with your delightful drink.

Not surprisingly, plain coffee tops the list for potency. A grande cup of brewed coffee has 330 mg of caffeine, which is pretty close to some recommended daily limits. The lattes, mochas, and cappuccinos all fall somewhere mid-list with pretty reasonable ranges of caffeine in each of them. But if you’re trying to skip caffeine altogether, you might be surprised at a few of the items on the list. While most people know Chai tea has caffeine (specifically 95 mg in the latte), many don’t realize that their beloved and delicious hot chocolate also contains caffeine (25 mg to be exact).

This information is especially helpful to people who may be sensitive to too much caffeine. Although some of us can have eight cups in the morning and not feel too overwhelmed (not bragging… I have a problem), there are lots of people who feel big-time effects from even small amounts of caffeine. Rather than over-doing it, you can smartly order something you and your body can handle. Like the “Awake” tea which (despite its name) only has very reasonable 70 mg of caffeine.

Remember, you know your body better than anyone so always be sure to listen to it. Whether you’re on a total caffeine cleanse or you’re channeling your inner Lorelai Gilmore and love to chug tons of it, a little education about caffeine content will do nothing but make you enjoy every delicious sip more.
