At last tally, everyone in the United States of America saw Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend. Every. One. It shattered all sorts of crazy records, from biggest Thursday night opening to biggest single-day in movie history. It pulled in a lot of money from ticket sales, because it appears as if every human from sea to shining sea bought a ticket (or five) for the movie. Including one of its stars, John Boyega.
Since you saw Star Wars this weekend, you know that Boyega plays stromtrooper-deserter-turned-hero Finn. Off screen, though, he’s still relatively brand new to this movie fame and glory. But you’d seriously never know. From interviews, and talk-show appearances, and his assorted Snapchats, Boyega appears to be one of the best and most charismatic people on the planet. So it’s no surprise that out of the blue, he showed up to a bunch of Force Awakens screenings across New York City on Friday night. Because he’s just as excited about Star Wars as you are.
Now imagine that you were one of the lucky audience members at one of these movie screenings, and you already have no Star Wars chill because THAT MOVIE, YOU GUYS, and as the credits start rolling, suddenly Boyega pops up to shake your hand and pose for pictures. How do you even deal with that?
From the videos he posted to his Instagram, the theaters amazingly dealt with his big surprise pretty well. Or, at least we can’t see any fans in hysterical tears! (Maybe the ones who cried were further in the back.) In one video, Boyega jokes that he was in the area, “looking for some drinks” in another, he mentions that he was “trying to find a Dunkin Donuts.”
Sure, sure, we’ll buy that story. We can’t blame him for lurking around a dozen showings of Force Awakens this weekend, and seeing as how the movie shows no signs of slowing down yet, he could pop up again soon. You never know. Best to cram in as many Force Awakens showings as possible.
