We are obsessed with Spotify for more than one reason. First, we can listen to pretty much any album from any artist on the go, at any time. We can create playlists based on our moods, the season, or whatever else tickles our fancy — and can share said playlists in a few clicks instead of having to burn a mix CD like it’s 2002. And my personal favorite feature? If I’m feeling too lazy to make a workout playlist, but know I’m in a ’90s-alternative mood (and honestly, when am I not?), there are plenty of built-in playlists that will ensure I’m jogging to sweet Goo Goo Dolls-esque sounds in no time.
And lucky us: This music-streaming service is now getting even better because they’re offering video content on iOS and Android, which they’re calling Video Shows.
With this new feature, you’ll be able to add video clips from partners like ESPN, Slate, MTV, Comedy Central, and more to your library by navigating to the “Browse > Shows” section of the menu, tapping “Video Shows” (right above “Audio Shows,” where you’ll find podcasts), and hitting the “Follow” button. And before you ask if it’s just a YouTube re-hash, the answer is no; according to 9To5Google, the video clips are totally ad-free. Which is nothing to sneeze at, if you ask us.
Though the update is rolling out in phases — The Wall Street Journal reports Android users in the U.S., U.K., Sweden, and Germany will start to see changes this week, while iOS folks will next week – we, for one, are psyched. An app where we can browse music, podcasts, and video all in one place without having to switch to a different app for each? YEP. My treadmill days just got that much better, because now I can watch Jimmy Fallon be adorable on The Tonight Show while I sweat. The future is now, kids.
