Take a look at that adorable fluffy face and just try to tell me it’s not one of the most adorable things you’ve seen lately. Of course, the same could be said for all of the hopefuls at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show parading around Madison Square Garden over the past few days. However, it was Sky the Wire Fox Terrier who took home the coveted Best In Show prize – not to mention the silver-plated trophy that goes along with the title!

5-year-old Sky is the latest in a long line of terrier victories at Westminster; she is the 14th Wire Fox and the 46th terrier full stop to take home the Best In Show prize, which totals more than any other breed. Indeed, she beat out over 2,800 other dogs to reach the top, but what it is that made her just that much more special than the rest, we might never know. Sure, she’s likely close to a perfect specimen of her breed, with a character and personality to match her physical attractiveness, but likely it was down to head judge Betty Regina Leininger’s gut feeling, and the results could have been drastically different had someone else been in charge that day. Needless to say, I think Sky and her handler, Gabriel Rangel, were glad Leininger was.

Of course, dog show titles are important in that particular industry, but aren’t all dogs wonderful? I’m sure Sky’s Best In Show competitors – a bloodhound named Nathan, a Cardigan Welsh corgi named Coco Posh, an Irish water spaniel named Riley, a miniature pinscher named Classie and a Portuguese water dog named Matisse – were all adorable in their own right, as were the other 2,800 who entered. Dogs are fantastic, and if we could have given a trophy to each and every one of them, we would!
