Rowan Blanchard, who plays Riley Matthews on Girl Meets World, might only be 14-years-old, but she always fine getting involved in important, mature conversations. This weekend, Blanchard proved her maturity once again when she opened up about her sexuality in a post on Twitter.
“In my life—only ever liked boys,” she wrote. “However I personally don’t wanna label myself as straight, gay or whateva so I am not gonna give myself labels to stick with—just existing :).”
Naturally, Blanchard’s Twitter followers were curious as to what exactly she meant by her tweet.
So she responded by explaining how she identifies her sexuality:
Blanchard’s tweets came shortly after a very poignant, and super powerful blog she wrote was published in Rookie Mag. In the blog, titled “Sorry, Not Sorry”, she explains how she “quit apologizing for existing.” She also shares three things that have helped her “trust myself enough to know that I don’t always have to say sorry for myself.”
“Will life be easier if you stop playing pretend?” Blanchard wrote. “Yes and no. Some things get easier, and so, some things get much harder. Then those hard things get easier and new things become harder. It all repeats itself, somehow. But if you listen closely to the tiny voice in your head, the calm one, that is you talking. And if you turn up the volume on it and try to listen, it blocks all the other voices out.”
We love her advice and hope her openness inspires other young people to not only keep an open mind about other people’s truths, but to live their own truths as well.
