Imagine if you weren’t allowed to go to prom just because your parents refused to accept your relationship. It’s tough to imagine missing out on such an important time just because someone else couldn’t handle your sexual orientation. But, Myren and Ralph didn’t want to take no for an answer. Myren is a teen from Maryland, who has a boyfriend named Ralph who Myren’s parents aren’t too happy about. After Myren came out as being bisexual, his parents had a hard time coming to terms with the fact that he had fallen for another man.

Their prom, conveniently, fell on their 7-month anniversary, making the event even more important. So, Myren did what many teenagers do — he told a lie, and decided to go anyway. “My parents told me I couldn’t go to prom because I wanted to go with my boyfriend so I had to go behind their backs,” he captioned a tweet that later went viral — since May 21st, it’s been retweeted over 20,000 times and liked over 45,000 times.

“My parents won’t let me see him,” Myren said, according to Buzzfeed. “It’s like I’m already living on punishment, so what do I have to lose by going to prom?”

And how adorable are these two? While sneaking out of the house often leads to negative results, we think Myren made the right decision on this one. Just by looking at his smile, you can tell there’s no other place he should have been. (For the record, Ralph takes full credit for their ensembles. Supposedly he has the sense of style out of the two.)

Since it’s been asked time and time again, Myren wants to make it clear that as of now, his parents still have no idea. Hopefully if they figure it out, they’ll eventually realize that they raised a son who isn’t afraid to be himself, and chase his dreams.

Speaking of Ralph, he summed up the new-found attention perfectly on his account. false

The two have quickly become legendary among other teens in the LGBTQ community, a few who noted that they actually had to miss their own prom based on parental disapproval. This just goes to show you that sometimes, you just have to stand up for what you believe in, and what makes you happy.

Many congratulations to the gorgeous couple for being truly inspiring. Here’s to many more incredible anniversaries!
