Education comes in many forms: It can come from a professor at an elite school, sure, but it can also come from life experiences, from books, or from others in your life. Regardless of where or how you get your education, it’s crucial that we never stop learning.

Continually reading and learning is what helps us think critically, connect patterns, and draw context from the events in our lives. We become more engaged citizens living fuller, more colorful lives.

Don’t want to take my word for it? Here are quotes from people (slightly) more famous than me explaining why you need to keep that mind of yours sharp:

1Education teaches us how to think for ourselves

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think.”
― Margaret Mead

2You hear that, current U.S. administration?

“Whatever the cost of our libraries, the price is cheap compared to that of an ignorant nation.”
― Walter Cronkite

3Preach, dude

“You can never be overdressed or overeducated.”
― Oscar Wilde

4Your mind is beautiful and dangerous

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.”
― Plutarch

5Always do better

“I did then what I knew how to do. Now that I know better, I do better.”
― Maya Angelou

6Learning shines a light on things you never realized to be true

“The mind once enlightened cannot again become dark.”
― Thomas Paine

7Education solidifies your future

“Education is our passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to the people who prepare for it today.”
― Malcolm X

8Stay curious and you’ll learn something new every day

“You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach him to learn by creating curiosity, he will continue the learning process as long as he lives.”
— Clay P. Bedford
