It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single guinea pig in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. Or something like that.

Since Jane Austen first penned her beloved classic, Pride & Prejudice, there have been countless retellings of how the impetuous, book-loving Miss Bennet stole Mr. Darcy’s prideful (yet at the same time, majorly swoonworthy) heart. From vampire Darcy to dog show judge Darcy, we’ve seen every incarnation of our favorite book boyfriend imaginable. At least we thought we had. Until now.

The latest spin on Pride & Prejudice is one we never saw coming. A Guinea Pig Pride & Prejudice hits bookstore shelves next month and yes, you guys, it’s exactly what it sounds like — a picture book starring (you guessed it) guinea pigs as our favorite Austen characters. It also might just be the Austen retelling we’ve been waiting for since Mr. Darcy first waxed poetic about the pleasure a pair of fine eyes in the face of a pretty woman can bestow.

I mean, what could possibly make our literary hearts beat faster than this?

Admit it. You know you’re intrigued. And you’re not the only one. The book doesn’t even come out until October 15, and already it’s causing quite the stir on social media.

It probably goes without saying that humans aren’t the only ones excited about Pride & Prejudice’s furry reboot. Obviously. Guinea pigs themselves (yes, actual guinea pigs) are hitting the Internet to express their literary glee.

Be still my heart! I think I’ve found my forever book club. We can’t wait until October 13. In the meantime, we’ll just be over here asking the eternal question. Who wore it best? (Look out, Colin Firth.)
