Everyone needs to read this woman's heart-wrenching Facebook post about how a drunk driver killed her husband and child
It’s every mother’s worst nightmare to bury a child. Yet, just one month ago, 24-year-old Kristian “Nikki” Guerrero birthed and buried her unborn son and her husband, Fabian Guerrero-Moreno, in Bryan, Texas.
"This is me being able to hold my son. This is what being in an induced labor for almost 24 hours after surviving a car crash that killed my husband and my son looks like. All because someone thought it was okay to get wasted and drive."
Kristin and Fabian had been driving on Highway 21 in San Marcos when a Texas State senior, Shana Elliott, veered across the center line and collided with the family’s car, killing Fabian, who was sitting in the passenger seat. Kristin then suffered bleeding of the brain and was forced to deliver their 19-week stillborn son two days later. She named him Fabian James, after his father.
"I could have died Aug. 2nd but God had other plans," Guerrero wrote on Facebook Sunday. "I'm left behind to fight this fight for my husband and my son."
I'd give anything in this world just to be able to be loved on by you and to be in your arms Fabian..
According to county records, Elliott admitted to driving while intoxicated and had been arrested twice before for felony drug charges. Now, she’s been charged with intoxicated manslaughter and intoxication assault with a vehicle, and remains in Hays County Jail.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, Kristin is speaking out in hopes of keeping another incident like this from happening to someone else. She urges those reading to take the keys from someone who’s been drinking and to ask for a ride if you are the one intoxicated. The funeral, held August 12th, housed hundreds to grieve for Fabian and Fabian Jr.
"I will continue to spread awareness and share this story until the day I die in hopes it prevents anyone else from feeling the pain I walk around with every day," Guerrero said. "I refuse to let my husband and my son's deaths to be in vain."
