It was one small step for man, one giant leap for…”MY PANTS.”

Peter Dinklage, in his long-overdue first hosting gig, said these very words on stage on Saturday Night Live last night, leading into what is possibly going to be the song of 2016: “Space Pants.”

Clad in a silver puffer jacket, a blond bob wig, and, of course space pants, Peter busted into some robotic dance moves, singing ridiculous lines like “Do you see my pants?/Oh wait, you missed them/My pants are a tour/Of the solar system” without cracking a smile. It’s comedic genius.

The whole thing is made even more hilarious by the sinister Mafia meeting happening at the table right in front of the stage.

“I’m sorry, it’s just kinda hard to focus with that guy screaming about his space pants,” says one of the guys who has a gun pointed at him.

But the best part is when Gwen Stefani comes out in her space shorts. Because in an alternate universe (Get it? It’s a space joke!) we could totally see her doing this song for real. She completely kills it, adding her signature rocker-girl attitude to the mix.

You can watch all the amazingness in the video below:

“Space Pants” was but one highlight in Peter Dinklage’s hosting debut; he’s being lauded as a strong host who brought serious comic chops to his sketches. Another major score was his sketch with Leslie Jones, “Naked and Afraid: Celebrity Edition,” in which Leslie correctly asserts, “What am I afraid of? I’m Leslie Jones!”

Of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without some Game of Thrones jokes, thanks to Peter’s fan-favorite (and so far still alive) character on the epic fantasy. The best of these was a “behind the scenes” featurette showing the truth behind the CG dragons — which is that they’re giant, scene-stealing hams.

All in all, it was a great first outing for Peter Dinklage. Should GoT’s ever-climbing death tally finally include him, it looks like he’s got a great backup option as an SNL cast member.
