6-year-old Leland Shumake tragically passed away this month after contracting a rare amoeba while playing outside in the dirt. As his devastated mother Amber explained in a recent Facebook post about her son “He was the smartest, most caring, loving little boy there ever was… He never met a stranger and he loved everyone. ”

Leland’s actions are a testament to his mother’s words. As Amber explained on Facebook, after Leland passed away, his parents went into his room to pick up the clothes their son was to be buried in. That’s when they found this note on his table that he had written to them.

“We have no idea when he wrote it but you can tell he was always a special child,” Amber said in the Facebook post in which she shared this photo. “We will love you forever Leland. Sleep tight and don’t let the bed bugs bite!”

This post has since been seen and shared by thousands of people, and the outpouring of love and support from strangers has been a small comfort to Leland’s family.

“We knew he was special and everyone he met fell in love with him but we never expected him to touch people globally,” Amber told Buzzfeed.

Our thoughts are with this family and their awesome little boy. Take the time to read the full post above. Amber’s beautiful tribute to her beautiful son is well worth a read.
