A Rhode Island mom is making sure her daughter gets her daily dose of female empowerment at lunch time — by putting napkin notes in her lunchbox.

Meaghan Elderkin sends her daughter to school with a hand-drawn note on a napkin every day. In the week following the presidential election, her notes turned from silly to inspiring.

“I felt really small and powerless after the results of the election,” Elderkin told the Huffington Post. “I wanted to remind my daughter (and myself, I guess) that we’re still strong and powerful even when we’re afraid. A lot of strong women have come before us, and they’ve had to fight even scarier obstacles.”

Elderkin posted photos of her napkin portraits, which range from Michelle Obama to Susan B. Anthony, in the popular Facebook group Pantsuit Nation, garnering more than 22,000 likes.

Elderkin says she also plans to start drawing notes for her second daughter Elsa, who begins preschool this year.  You can check out more of the art on this awesome Facebook page.
