Along with the rest of the Internet, our jaws have been hanging open ever since we found at that Aerie’s awesome male body positivity campaign video — titled #AerieMAN — was just a big April Fool’s joke.

According to an official press release, American Eagle Outfitters said:

However, it seems like it wasn’t just the general public who wasn’t in on the joke. Kelvin Davis, a male model with a body positive blog called Notoriously Dapper and 38.8k followers on Instagram at the time of this article’s publication, claims that he had no idea the video was all a ruse.

American Eagle has yet to comment on what Kelvin has said, but if it’s true, that’s seriously not cool.

We bet AEO never expected this much drama from their “prank,” but at least they’re started an important conversation, even if they didn’t necessarily intend to.
