I don’t know what you did last night, but I watched a movie on Netflix. And then the night before that, I watched a television show…on Netflix. I cannot say for certain what you’ve done this week, but I’d bet you watched a movie or some show on my favorite website, Netflix. And I have got NUMBERS to back me up on this. A recent survey has come out about America’s media consumption and it turns out that over half of Americans are using Netflix as a streaming service. This pushes Netflix ahead of YouTube, HBO Go, Amazon, and Hulu.

Netflix offers a lot of the same services as its competitors, but is making larger strides in one category — providing original series and specials. And not just any original series and specials, but highly-rated and enjoyed series, such as Aziz Ansari’s Master of None, which is the most beloved and highly rated show this season by both critics and consumers alike.

But it’s not just here in America that Netflix is kicking butt. Netflix is killing it internationally as well. For example, over 52% of those surveyed in France and Germany have watched one of Netflix’s crown jewels, House of Cards.

As shows like Orange is the New Black bring in record viewership and nominations, it’s hard to ignore that television’s landscape is changing, as viewership shifts from traditional television watching to primarily streaming services. However, some companies argue that the switch is a fad, and potentially not as lastingly drastic as we would think.

Well, I can’t tell you the future of television or whether Netflix will continue to be top dog. But I can promise you that tonight, I will definitely be watching Netflix on my laptop. As well as tomorrow night. And the night after that. And probably the next night too. Then I’ll take a break. Just kidding, I really, really won’t.
