Here’s why Lena Dunham shared a photo of a pregnancy test on Instagram
Girls creator and star Lena Dunham is never one to hide things from her fans, including, most recently, the results of a pregnancy test.
The photo in question was posted on Dunham’s Instagram and shows her holding two negative pregnancy tests in the bathroom of a Walgreens. But for those of you thinking that Dunham and her boyfriend of four years, musician Jack Antonoff, are trying to have a baby, don’t get too ahead of yourselves.
The picture was actually a throwback to 2011, and Dunham wrote in her caption, “Throwback to 2011. First time I got a gel manicure/last time I took two pregnancy tests in a Walgreens bathroom. G-D BLESS being 30.”
This isn’t the first time Dunham has been open about her challenges with reproductive health, InTouch notes. She has taken to social media on several times to talk about her ongoing battle with endometriosis, a super painful disorder in which the tissue that typically lines the inside of the uterus grows outside of it.
In February, she spoke out about how her fight with the illness was so exhausting, she was forced to take some time off from the set of Girls to rest.
“I am currently going through a rough patch with the illness and my body (along with my amazing doctors) let me know, in no uncertain terms, that it’s time to rest,” she wrote. “That’s a hard thing to do, but I’m trying, because all I want is to make season 6 of Girls the best one yet.”
But even that rest didn’t prove quite enough; the writer and actress was rushed to the hospital in March after an ovarian cyst ruptured, requiring surgery.
We applaud Dunham for her honesty and bravery in openly sharing her challenges, which so many women share. She serves as a great reminder that our reproductive health can be a huge factor in our lives, and shouldn’t just be swept under the rug and hidden away.
