On Wednesday night’s episode of Kocktails With Khloe, Khloe Kardashian opened up about something close to her heart: Caitlyn Jenner‘s transition. Caitlyn introduced herself to the world as a transgender woman in June of last year by posing on the cover of Vanity Fair. This typically private event in the family’s life unfolded in front of the entire world, so there were some things Khloe felt she needed to explain.

“What was crazy for us was people would always say, like, ‘You were so angry when you heard about your stepdad’s transition,'” she said. “I wasn’t angry that Bruce wanted to transition to Cait . . . I felt very responsible to defend my little sisters.”

Kendall and Kylie Jenner, youngest daughters of the I Am Cait star, are still growing up—and doing it in front of the whole world. That aspect was what Khloe was so worried about.

“We just felt like so many people knew before we did,” Khloe continued. “I think we were also so afraid because nobody really had a voice. We just never wanted anyone to ever be mean to Caitlyn.”

Khloe has been the most outspoken of the Kardashian/Jenner children about struggling with her stepdad’s transition, although she’s always been supportive and loving. It’s great to finally hear her speak in her own words about what her concerns have been.
