Kelly Clarkson's response to awful body-shaming tweets is perfection
We already knew we loved Kelly Clarkson, but today we’re especially feeling the love for our lady K—after her perfect response to a nasty commenter on Twitter.
The singer recently appeared on BBC’s The Graham Norton Show for an interview, looking amazing as always. But a woman named Katie Hopkins, a former contestant on The Apprentice UK, took the opportunity to raise her own profile by bringing Clarkson down.
After the show aired, Hopkins took to Twitter to ridicule Clarkson’s appearance. The tweets Hopkins sent out were some of the worst body-shaming “jokes” ever, including the question, “Did she eat all of her backing singers?” (We can’t even think of posting all of Hopkins’ awful tweets here because they’re just, well, awful.)
When fans stood up for Clarkson, Hopkins shot them down with equally biting barbs.
So what did Clarkson say when asked about the mean-spirited tweets in a recent Heat interview? Well, first she said, “I don’t have a clue what you’re talking about.” Obviously, Kelly has WAY better things to do with her time (like making awesome music with Sia) than engaging with body-shaming trollers.
But when the reporter explained the nastiness being hurled at Clarkson by Hopkins, she responded with this: “That’s because she doesn’t know me. I’m awesome! It doesn’t bother me. It’s a free world. Say what you will.”
Damn straight. Nobody should have to deal with body-shaming or haters, but when they do rear their heads on social media or in IRL, it’s so important to shake it off, be confident in who you are and remember that the opinions of people who are trying to put you down don’t matter at all. Thank you, Kelly, for reminding us of this and for continuing to be the rock star that you truly are.
