Kanye West and Weezer meet on the greatest mashup album of all time
An album of Kanye West tracks meshed with some of Weezer’s greatest hits? Sign us up! A sophomore at Ohio State University named Alex Hodowanec has combined the two artists’ greatest hits to produce a mashup compilation of ten songs entitled Yeezer, and we have found our new workout playlist.
Hodowanec, who goes by the producer name Chuckie Nugget online, told Radio.com of the album, “A couple of summers ago I got into Weezer. I’m a little bit too young for the first wave of Weezer…[but] I listened to some of their older album and it turned out that it was really good.”
Inspired by his newfound love of the Weezer catalog, Nugget decided try a mashup project after a friend jokingly came up with the name Yeezer. Brilliant!
Nugget said, “The first song I started working on was the first song on the album—which is Kanye’s song…‘Through The Wire,’ mixed with ‘Beverly Hills.’ I just kinda figured ‘Beverly’ Hills [sic] was the most iconic Weezer song. It was really just a matter of finding songs that had similar feels and tempos from that point on. Once that first song clicked, I thought, you might as well just go for nine more, right?” And we are thankful he did!
Yeezer is the perfect mid-afternoon pick-me-up, with tracks like “The Buddy Holly Workout Plan” (a mix of Weezer’s classic “Buddy Holly” and West’s “The New Workout Plan”) and the aforementioned combo of Kanye’s “Through The Wire” and Weezer’s “Beverly Hills”, aptly titled “Through the Hills.”
Self-billed as “a mashup album created solely based around the pun of ‘Yeezer’,” Nugget is committed to providing the album free to all listeners. He just notes, “All music belongs to that of Kanye West and Weezer, I am just the disciple.” Listen to the full playlist for free on Audiomack or download it here.
