Remember that totally bizarre apology video that Johnny Depp and Amber Heard posted to social media after they failed to declare Amber Heard’s dogs, Pistol and Boo, before landing in Australia last year? Of course you do — it’s hard to forget Johnny solemnly saying with seemingly zero emotion, “Declare everything when you enter Australia.”

Well, it turns out that even Johnny finds the whole thing pretty weird.

On Sunday, during a press event for Alice Through the Looking Glass in London, Johnny made a tongue-in-cheek remark about the apology video, joking that he’s sorry he didn’t smuggle Pistol and Boo into England. “I’m gonna do this everywhere I go — I would really like to apologize for not smuggling my dogs into England,” he said, smirking. “Because it would have been a bad thing to do.”

The comment is poking fun at the video posted in last month which Johnny and Amber apologized for breaking the Australian law that requires pets to be placed in quarantine and declared before entering the country. Of course, this is an important breach of safety and the two superstars should not have done it. Still, the manner in which they apologized struck the Internet as wooden, awkward, and even forced — almost comically so.

Check out the full video clip below, because let’s be real, it’s always nice when someone isn’t afraid to poke fun of themselves. And Johnny Depp — just make sure to declare Pistol and Boo next time!
