Jimmy Kimmel gave the 'World's Ugliest Dog' a makeover (not that she needed it)
There are a lot of dog competitions out there, but none is more unique than the one for World’s Ugliest Dog. While it might sound like a pretty mean title to bestow upon a canine, fear not.
It’s actually meant to draw attention to the issue of the sheer number of mixed-breed dogs and mutts who often come from shelters or puppy mills — and to encourage people to look for a four-legged friend among the non-traditional.
This year, the award for World’s Ugliest Dog went to Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix who hails from Florida. According to her bio on the official contest website, Quasi Modo was discovered at an animal shelter by one of the veterinarians there who decided to take her home for keeps. Because Quasi Modo has multiple birth defects, her spine is too short for the rest of her body – but that doesn’t stop her from enjoying all aspects of life, as she “wrote” in her bio:
I love to meet new people and teach them about diversity. I have become a great ambassador for teaching people about acceptance and tolerance for things that are different. You should never judge a book by its cover! Just because an animal or person looks different doesn’t mean they’re any less deserving of love. It’s OK to be different.
Thanks to her recent win, Quasi Modo has been making all kinds of appearances on the talk show circuit lately — including one on Good Morning America. And last night she actually went on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where the talk show host gave her a makeover with the help of celebrity stylist Carson Kressley and a team of makeup and hair specialists. She didn’t seem to mind the doting, so that was cool.
While her owners said her new look is a little more high-maintenance than they’re used to, this could be the start of something new for Quasi Modo! Then again, as you can see from the video below, Quasi Modo’s chill personality is just one of the reasons why she’s perfect just the way she is, makeover or no makeover.
