We were under the impression that Joseph Gordon-Levitt had already reached his quota of wonderfulness, but that was a very silly assumption on our part.
This past year, the talented actor and his wife Tasha McCauley welcomed a baby boy into the world. Following this huge change in his life, Gordon-Levitt realized that his son was already having a profound effect on him. To put it simply, this little Levitt was giving his dad a much-needed dose of positivity. “I look at my son and I say he’s awesome. He’s gonna grow up and he’s going to do such incredible things,” the HitRecord creator explained to ABC News. “But here’s the thing – and this is why I feel private – I don’t want him to feel the pressure of me having been on TV and saying that.”
It warms our hearts to hear that the new dad already has an incredible amount of faith in his son. It’s also extremely important that he’s looking out for him, by making sure that he doesn’t feel as though he’s being pushed into the limelight. What a beautiful display of fatherly love.
“Cause what if he just wants to, you know, go off and live in Tibet and be a monk and never be heard from again? I wanna support that and I want him to feel encouraged to do that. And I don’t want him thinking like, ‘Oh God, my dad went on TV and told the world that I was gonna do great things. And you know what? I actually don’t wanna do anything that the world is ever gonna really hear about,'” he added. “I’d like him to be able to speak for himself when he gets old enough. And I don’t know if it’s really my place to speak for him.”
Most children can’t help but crave their parents’ approval, but it seems as though this is one child who already has it. And, to be completely honest, that makes us SO HAPPY. (Also – we definitely think that this baby boy should consider the Tibetan monk route because how cool would that be?)
“Being in the public eye for me is a great thing. It allows me to do what I love to do, which is act in movies, but it’s a choice I made,” Gordon-Levitt stated on Live! with Kelly and Michael. “I decided to have a career in show business, so I’m in the public eye, people know my name and know my face — and that has its upsides and honestly some downsides. My son, he’s just a baby. He hasn’t made the choice to be in the public eye, and that’s a choice I’d like him to be able to make when he’s older… For now, I’m just a protective dad, and I want to protect his privacy.”
Well, we’re currently polishing the actor’s Father of the Year award and preparing for the award ceremony. Until then, we’ll just say this: Keep doing what you’re doing, Joseph Gordon-Levitt! *throws confetti in the air*
