It's international left-handers day and the struggle is real
These days, every day is a holiday. From National Siblings Day to National S’mores Day, there’s always a reason to celebrate. Some of these holidays are social media famous because of the food porn pics that demand you indulge in pancakes just because it’s National Pancake Day (March 8). Of course, there’s backlash directed at the holiday du jour for being less significant than every single person’s favorite Hallmark holiday, Valentine’s Day.
However, today – August 13th – is a holiday unlike the others. It’s a holiday that receives such little recognition that those being celebrated are actually griping about how quiet the day is.
Today is International Left-Handers Day. Statistics say 10% of the world’s population is left-handed, and today, a portion of that small percentage are speaking up about the shared struggles of living in a world designed for other people – righties.
From school desks to cars, the world is designed to facilitate the majority. But lefties can overcome the struggle: Famous lefties include Michelangelo, Nietzsche, Angelina Jolie, Barack Obama, Bart Simpson and Bob Dylan. It’s a strong crew, no doubt.
Happy International Left-Handers Day, lefties!
