Is there anyone on the face of this earth who actually likes the new Snapchat update? So far, it seems like the app’s latest layout has been a huge fail, and tons of people are already trying a new workaround to get the old Snapchat back. If you fall into that category, you might be wondering how to turn off automatic Snapchat updates, since that’s a vital step in the hack. Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to do.

First, you have to delete the app — after backing up your memories, of course, if there’s anything in there you wouldn’t want to lose.

Next, you have to turn off those updates, which is super simple. If you have an iPhone, just go to Settings, and then click on iTunes & App Store. If the toggle is on next to Updates under “Automatic Downloads,” turn it off. There. You’ve done it! When you’re finished, the screen will look something like this:

Now, all you have to do is re-download the app and reset your password using the “forgot password” link. After that, you should be all set — if this hack works for you, since people have had varying levels of success with it.

If you try this out, just keep in mind that there’s a chance it could backfire. Snapchat’s official support account on Twitter has already warned against it, claiming that users who do this trick could end up losing access to their account or their Snapchat memories forever, and neither of those outcomes sound ideal. But if you’re like the millions of users — including celebrities like Chrissy Teigen and Kylie Jenner — who hate the way the people they follow are organized now and want the old Snapchat back, this is your only viable option.

Even if you aren’t attempting the hack but still hate the new Snapchat, it’s not a bad idea to turn off those automatic updates anyway. That way, just in case the app rolls out another set of changes you’re not a fan of in the future, your phone won’t start the download without your consent. And at this point, that might be the best road to take if you’re just trying to keep those streaks going, update or not.
