ICYMI: 'Hotline Bling' as told from a woman's perspective
Drake released “Hotline Bling” at the end of July, and ever since, it’s been inspiring countless reinterpretations and plenty o’ memes. From math teachers who dressed and danced like Drake, to cats and pugs dancing to the beat, everyone’s gotten in on the “Hotline Bling” action. And, of course, there have been some ultra rad covers and remixes by artists like Sufjan Stevens, Sam Smith, and Erykah Badu.
But perhaps our all-time fave covers comes from YouTuber Ceresia not only because of her gorgeous musical rendition, but because of the ultra feminist spin she puts on the song. Using Drake’s own lyrics, she flips their meaning back on him. With just a couple of words switched, we get a total feminist revision. For instance, it’s none of Drake’s business if she, “started wearing less and going out more!”
Since posting the video, Ceresia’s cover has totally blown up, with over 2 million views, and for a great reason. Not only is Ceresia super talented, but her cover is brilliant. I’ll let you listen for yourself — instead of spoiling it.
