The makeup aisle can be an intimidating place – especially when you’re staring at an entire army of lipsticks in slightly different shades. Then, it gets even worse when you have to narrow down this selection while attempting to pick only a few lip products that won’t bankrupt you. When such a situation arises, it’s always helpful to know what brands and shades others are enjoying. That’s why we’re currently looking at millennials’ beauty habits.

With 5,448 millennial women as participants, Influenster aimed to find out more about the beauty preferences and habits of these United States-based women. During the period of time from April 28th to May 6th, they asked this specific question: If you were stuck on a deserted island, what’s the one lipstick brand you must have? The answer…

A whooping 19% of women responded that MAC Cosmetics is the one brand they couldn’t live without, even on a deserted island. Up next was NYX Cosmetics (7%), Kat Von D (7%), and Covergirl (6%). Recognizable brands such as Maybelline (3%), e.l.f. Cosmetics (2%), Rimmel (1%), and Sonia Kashuk (0%) were also on the list. However, MAC reigned supreme, demonstrating that many women are okay with spending more than $12 on a lipstick if they feel it’s a quality (and beloved) product.

Plus, Influenster also looked at mascara brands. Interestingly enough, there wasn’t a huge difference between the Top 3: Covergirl (14%), Maybelline (13%), and Too Faced Cosmetics (8%). In this case, the the Top 2 products proved that women are more likely to go for a drugstore mascara over a high-end one.

We’ll definitely be keeping all of this in mind next time we’re overwhelmed in the middle of a makeup aisle.
