Janelle Monáe has solidified her presence in the music and entertainment industry with her soulful musical stylings, her social activism, and her impressive acting ability (we can’t wait to see her in Hidden Figures!).

Any Janelle Monáe fan knows how vital the concepts of androids and Afrofuturism are to the musician’s body of work. Titles of Monáe’s albums include The ArchAndroid and The Electric Lady.

Monáe has even created an android alter ego, Cindi Mayweather. In an interview with MTV, Monáe described the symbolism of the android in her work:

“Cindi is an android and I love speaking about the android because they are the new ‘other.’ People are afraid of the other and I believe we’re going to live in a world with androids because of technology and the way it advances. [In] the first album, she was running because she had fallen in love with a human and she was being disassembled for that.”

When androids aren’t influencing the singer-songwriter’s musical themes, they are influencing her unique and artistic fashion sense.

And in one of her most recent Instagram posts, Monáe showed off a fierce, metallic, android-inspired manicure:

The stunning and futuristic look by extremely talented nail artist Mei Kawajiri (@ciaomanhattan2012) is incredible. In her caption, Cindi Mayweather herself writes:

“Obsessed. Thank you, Mei! Android sh%t.”

We’re definitely obsessed, too, and we desperately want to live in the futuristic world that inhabits Janelle Monáe’s imagination.
