We can't even process this 'Game of Thrones' star's dress situation
There are lots of people at Paris Fashion Week. One of them happens to be Gwendoline Christie, and she just happens to be one of our FAVORITE characters on Game of Thrones. Also, she’s probably going to be one of our favorite characters in both Mockingjay – Part 2 and Star Wars: The Force Awakens when they come out later this year, but we’ll decide that officially later.
Anyway. Christie is at Fashion Week, doing all sorts of Fashion Week stuff, but she’s not just sitting on the sidelines of the runway. Oh no. She is right up there in the actual action of the catwalk, though she’s not exactly walking the catwalk either. So, what is she doing? Oh, you know, just lying in the middle of the catwalk while 3D printers create a dress around her, like that’s not a big deal or anything. That sounds like a regular weekday to us.
Christie participated in Iris van Herpen’s Spring fashion show in absolutely the coolest way. She lay on a giant circular pillar in the middle of the room, while three 3D printers “wove” a dress onto her, along with some laser cutting and also some hand weaving. These printers were masked in giant sculptures, and according to Dazed, were actually all made out of magnets. Once again, just a regular afternoon.
“[Herpen’s] work reveals the secret structures of our existence giving us a multidimensional experience of what it is to be alive,” Christie explained, “it is an investigation into the past, present and future in all its primal and mythological forms.”
OK, we’ll agree to all of that, just because we’re so blown away by this fashion/art/art installation. You’ve really got to see this in action to believe it. While models walked around her wearing Herpen’s latest Spring ’16 collection, Christie lay perfectly still and let the fashion come to her.
This is the craziest thing we’ve seen all week, and also our most favorite. For Christie, this is just all in a day’s work.
