Imagine if Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko and Picasso decided to join forces and create nail art, because that’s kind of what you get when you try out this latest trend called “dry-brushing.” The style first debuted back in February at the last London Fashion Week. Now, it’s something you can try at home because, spoiler alert, it’s actually super easy.

The technique was used at DAKS London, and a Facebook page called “Nail Art Junkie” posted the photos that have got us all obsessed:

While it may look like mini works of art for you fingers, this look is achieved using everything you already have in your nail polish collection. First, apply a coat or a two of nude polish and let it dry. Then, pick out the color (or colors!) that you want to dry-brush on, and remove all the excess polish from the brush. This is what gives it that “dry” effect. Take it, and apply it in whatever way you like over the base. You can just do one or two strokes, giving it an abstract look, or cover your nail, making it look more like paint splatters.

There are also a number of tutorial videos over on YouTube that can give you step by step visuals so you know you’re on the right track.

It goes against everything we’ve been taught when it comes to painting our nails, but this breaking-out-of-the-box is exactly what makes it so cool. It may not look right at first, or you may have to give it a few go-s before you get that runway-ready feeling, but as long as you’re having fun and being creative, then you’ve nailed it.
