This past year has been stressful, to say the least. We lost some of our greatest artists and our hopes of electing the first woman president were dashed in the most dramatic fashion. So it makes sense that Pantone has selected as its Color of the Year for 2017 a shade that will do more to calm the national psyche than arouse it. That shade is called “Greenery,” and once you start to notice it, we guarantee you’ll see it everywhere.

Pantone, the world’s leading color authority, describes Greenery as “a fresh and zesty yellow-green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew,” adding that it’s “nature’s neutral.” The company says its annual Color of the Year represents “a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.”

See for yourself! Do you think Greenery is the right shade for the year ahead?

We’re definitely on board!

Between the explosive popularity of green eyeshadow, the surprising ubiquity of green velvet, and the rise of living walls and matcha green tea, it’s no surprise that Pantone opted for this shade — it’s a trend that’s been right under our noses.

As Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in an interview with The New York Times,

"This is the color of hopefulness, and of our connection to nature. It speaks to what we call the 're' words: regenerate, refresh, revitalize, renew. Every spring we enter a new cycle and new shoots come from the ground. It is something life affirming to look forward to."

With so much uncertainly before us, we know we’ll be clothing our bodies and filling our homes with as much hopeful green energy as possible in 2017!
