10 Household Chores Ranked From Best to Worst
April 7th is No Housework Day, so make sure you don’t clean ANYTHING. That’s right. So if your mom tells you to clean your room, you can just tell her Hellogiggles ordered you not to, okay?
To celebrate, I’ve put together my oh-this-isn’t-that-bad-once-I-get-going chores and my ugh-I’d-rather-let-my-house-rot chore list.
My Best-Of List:
5. Doing laundry
I love the entire process, you guys. Yes, it’s a little annoying having to use my apartment complex’s community laundry room, and there is always someone who leaves their dried clothes in the dryer for like three hours, but being able to sink my face into freshly washed, warm clothing is amazing. Also, doing my laundry just makes me feel like I have a ton of clothes all of the sudden. Maybe it’s because I wait for two weeks to wash them, but suddenly I have like three more pairs of jeans to wear and life is awesome.
4. Cleaning out the fridge
Cleaning out my fridge just means I get to go grocery shopping again! Because a girl’s gotta eat, right?
3. Making the bed
I actually don’t really like making the bed, but it’s such a quick and easy effort that truly transforms your bedroom.
Dusting is so easy, and I love how clean and beautiful my bookshelves look after going at them with my Swiffer (if you don’t have one, you need one. It will change your life. …I can’t believe I just said that.)
Organizing is one of those tasks that seems super daunting at first, but once you get into it, it’s the best thing that has ever happened to you. I love going through my clothes and picking out what needs to be donated, paperwork that needs to be shredded, and scattered photos that need to be framed. Organizing makes my life feel more cohesive, and adult-like. It also reminds me of how much STUFF I have and that I should really hold off on buying more.
My Worst-Of List:
5. Cleaning the bathrooms
I don’t think I’ve ever met a person who enjoys scrubbing toilets and showers. It’s kind of gross. Why are we so dirty? I also don’t understand why the sink is ALWAYS a hot mess. I use it once and it looks like someone spilled bleach on the faucet. Toothpaste always has its way with the counter. Am I just an animal?
4. Doing the dishes
I know washing the dishes is supposed to be therapeutic, but it actually makes me more anxious. Like, after I wash these dishes, I’m going to have to wash more dishes because I’m a person who eats and uses a lot of plates and bowls and forks. It’s kind of like the Myth of Sisyphus and the dishes are my rock. Maybe this is why I give up halfway through the week and just go to Subway.
Honestly, I just hate loud noises.
2. Sweeping the floors
I don’t mind washing the floor, but sweeping it and making sure I get every little piece of food or hair is super annoying. Also, no matter how many brooms I purchase, I can never find one that doesn’t become all gross and dingy with dust after a couple of weeks. Any suggestions?
1. Dealing with pets
Okay, scooping my cat’s litter box isn’t a big deal. Washing her? Forget it. She nearly took down my shower curtains with her claws. I hear dogs are better, but it’s still a pain in the ass. Can we talk about sick pets? I love and cherish my cat, but she almost killed me when I tried giving her antibiotics. I’m not trying to complain about being a pet owner because I love it so, but dealing with pets can just be straight up dangerous sometimes.
