Breastfeeding is beautiful. The fact that we can sustain life with our bodies is incredible. Whether or not a woman breastfeeds is up to her, but we’re here for every woman who shares her story about the trials and tribulations that come with making that decision. Our current inspiration comes from Venezuelan photographer Yaky Di Roma, the woman behind Di Roma Photography, who posted an unexpected and inspiring self-portrait of her breastfeeding her three-year-old son.
Oh yeah, and Di Roma just so happens to be dressed as Maleficent while she does it. The striking photo is only outshined by the inspiration behind the image itself.
In the photo, we see Yaky channeling her love of Disney as Maleficent, horns and all. She’s wearing a sheer black dress while breastfeeding her son, and captioned the photo, “Even villains will do anything for their little ones,” which is a sentiment we couldn’t agree with more.
While some may be questioning why Yaky is still breastfeeding, we would just like to say that’s a decision every mother has to make for herself. In Yaky’s case, her son is autistic, has a hard time with transitions, and has found comfort in breastfeeding, according to HuffPost.
In an interview with the site, Yaky says,
By highlighting her bond with her little one, and how the decision to continue breastfeeding is extremely personal, Yaky is helping us open up a discussion about choice and what it means to be a good mother. Namely that you have to do what’s right for your child.
Plus, by bringing in a little Disney fun, Yaky’s also reminding us that motherhood isn’t always supposed to be so serious.
