For many of us, when we start to think about getting healthy, we first think about losing weight, and then start considering eating less to make that dream a reality. For sure, not everyone wants to lose weight, and weight loss is not synonymous with being in good health, but sometimes, for some of us, it’s a part of the puzzle. However, the truth of the matter is that losing weight isn’t always the right fitness goal for our bodies — and if you want to lose weight, eating less isn’t always the answer. Instagrammer Madalin Giorgetta just got SO real about this sorta confusing issue, and it’s a new way to think about reaching your fitness goals.

When Madalin Giorgetta decided to get fit, she decided to cut calories.

“When I was eating 800 calories a day, I thought I was healthy. I was eating healthy food, but hardly any macronutrients,” she wrote. “800 calories seems absurdly low as now I need minimum 1500 calories to be full, but at the time 800 calories was keeping me full because that’s what my body was used to. After a while though, salad simply wasn’t cutting it, and for all the restrictions I was placing on my diet, I simply wasn’t seeing the results I had anticipated.”

When she wasn’t getting closer to her fitness goals, she switched up her eating habits.

“I got in touch with a PT and nutritional coach and got my macros sorted. When he first told me to eat 50% carbs I nearly died!” she explained. “I also freaked out at all the calories. I remember how hard I struggled to actually eat the size of my meals. I would just put my lunch next to my desk and eat it over the course of 3 hours as I couldn’t eat it in one sitting!”

But what she didn’t realize is that cutting calories doesn’t always mean getting more fit.

“Now my stomach can take way more and is much happier! If you’re under feeding yourself in an effort to lose weight, don’t do what I did for so long. Don’t waste your time eating salad when you could be eating sweet potatoes and banana pancakes. Eat more and get fit. It actually works 🙌🏽”

We LOVE that Madalin Giorgetta opened up about how eating more helped her reach her fitness goals, since it’s such a common myth that eating less is somehow better for everyone. Everyone has a different body, and different goals, so it’s important to talk to a professional or at least do some research about what’s best for you!
