Shimmying into pants in a dressing room might actually be hell on Earth. Even though we all know we should love our bodies, it can be tough sometimes. Which is why it’s important to remember that sizes on clothes are complete BS. Seriously — it’s not your body. It’s the ridiculous numbers we put on our clothes. Not convinced? Check out Instagrammer Michelle Elman’s post about fitting into the same size 14 dress from five years ago, even though she’s supposedly five sizes larger now.

She posted a back-to-back picture of herself in the dress in 2012, when she was a size 12. In 2017, at size 20, the dress still looks great on her, of course.

She wrote, “I bought it 5 years ago when I was a size 12. Now, I’m a size 20. And yet, I still fit it. Which just proves that NUMBERS DON’T MEAN ANYTHING. So are you really going to let a change a dress size dictate your day? Are you really going to let an increase in a number affect your mood? Same dress. Still comfortable. Still beautiful. (In fact, I think I look better and happier now!)”

Remember, sizes change from manufacturer to manufacturer, or country to country. If you have your period or it’s a certain time of day, your body will feel different in your clothes. It’s OK. When you start to get down on yourself, remember to talk to yourself like you would a friend. You wouldn’t tell them all the nasty stuff you say to yourself when your self-esteem is low, right? That’s what we thought.

Elman is full of good advice. She has a very good solution for those of us staring into our closets wondering why we don’t fit into last summer’s Levi’s booty shorts: Stop doing that. She wrote:

Can we get Elman a motivational speaker deal, please? Keep reminding yourself: Sizes don’t mean a thing. Just stay healthy and happy, and ignore all the haters. They’ll figure it out eventually.
