Selena Gomez got real about rehab, and why it's the 'best thing" she's ever done
Obviously her talent is off the charts, but the really impressive thing about Selena Gomez is how she has channeled her personal experiences and struggles into helping others.
In an interview with Vogue, Gomez opened up about mental health, and emphasized how there was a stage in her life when things were not going so well (despite looking fine on the outside). Describing tours as “a lonely place,” Gomez says that her confidence was crushed and she generally felt depressed and anxious (all of which are side effects of lupus). So, she made the bold move to spend 90 days attending a comprehensive therapy program in Tennessee.
We are so freaking proud of Gomez for taking time off to really focus on herself, and glad that she bounced back in such a positive way.
via giphyShe continues to see a therapist multiple times a week, and noted that a process called Dialectical Behavior Therapy, which encourages patients to communicate more effectively and regulate their emotions, has “completely changed” her life.
via giphyIt’s so important that Gomez is opening up about mental health, because the more people who know that it’s okay to feel overwhelmed and it’s okay to ask for help, the better. Hopefully her 110 million Instagram followers (!!!) will give her the privacy and space she needs to continue soaring.
In case you can’t tell, we have so much love and respect for Selena Gomez. Keep on keeping it real, girl.
